The Pakistan cricket team selectors have complained to the PCB about Shaheen Afridi not following instructions during the Champions Trophy. Mohammad Rizwan and co. exited the tournament in the group stage after suffering defeats to New Zealand and India. Now, a report has claimed that the selectors have blamed Afridi for acting on his own accord which cost the team the Champions Trophy.

As per Cricket Pakistan, an official raised a complaint about Shaheen, accusing him of blatantly ignoring instructions. The official claimed that the pacer ignored instructions to bowl yorkers when asked to do so and instead bowled as per his will. Afridi has been left out of the squad for the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand, a knee-jerk reaction to their Champions Trophy debacle.

Afridi and former skipper Babar Azam paid the price for Pakistan’s poor show in CT 2025. Pakistan cricket team head coach, Aaqib Javed, revealed why Babar, Shaheen, and Rizwan were dropped from the upcoming New Zealand vs. Pakistan series and how they can return to the limited-overs teams.
Babar Azam and Rizwan weren’t named in the T20I team, while Afridi isn’t there in the 50-over side. Aaqib hasn’t ruled out the possibility of the star players returning but also offered that they aren’t doing anything unusual. Many teams have separate white-ball teams depending on the formats, and Pakistan is doing the same.
“Top players like Babar, Shaheen, and Rizwan travel so much they don’t have time to play their domestic cricket. Now they have time to play domestic cricket. Until you play four-day cricket, you will not improve in Tests or ODIs. It cannot be that you play 70% T20 cricket all year and then suddenly you play Tests or ODIs,” Aaqib had said.
