Reports stated that Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill batted for nearly an hour in the nets, grinding it out before the Champions Trophy final. The Indian vice-captain was then spotted having a chat with the former skipper. The session on Friday marked India’s last practice session before the marquee clash on Sunday.
All eyes will be on the veteran duo of Rohit and Virat, with speculations over their future in ODIs at an all-time high. On Friday, a report stated that the Hitman’s future in ODIs, both as player and captain, hinges on India winning the Champions Trophy on Sunday. “Tough discussions” could be held over moving on from Rohit as captain in ODIs and Tests. The report claims that chief selector Ajit Agarkar and head coach Gautam Gambhir have already discussed the proposition with the BCCI. Further, Rohit was reportedly not averse to the idea of setting a roadmap for the team following the completion of CT 2025.
“Rohit still believes there is some cricket left in him. He has been told to communicate his plans going forward. Retiring is his call but there will be another discussion around continuing with captaincy. Rohit himself understands the need to have a stable captain if the team wants to prepare for a World Cup. There have been talks with Kohli too. But there doesn’t seem to be much anxiety around him,” a source told TOI.
