Former Indian pacer Sreesanth has called on fans and the media to refrain from speculating about the retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. He expressed his hope that the duo would participate in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, aiming to secure a gold medal for India.
Sreesanth’s remarks come amidst Virat Kohli and Rohit’s continued importance to India’s ongoing campaign in the Champions Trophy 2025. The team secured a spot in the final with a dominant victory over Australia in Dubai on Tuesday.
Following their retirement from T20Is after India’s triumphant 2024 T20 World Cup campaign, questions about their future in ODIs and Tests have lingered. With cricket’s inclusion in the Olympics in the T20 format, Sreesanth believes the pair should set their sights on the global event in Los Angeles. However, both players have already stepped away from T20I cricket.
Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma to play in Olympics 2028?
“Everybody’s talking about Virat and you know Rohit Sharma might be retiring. Please let them keep playing. We are going to win the Olympics because there is nothing like an Olympian Virat and Olympian Rohit winning the gold medal for the country,” Sreesanth told India Today.
While it remains uncertain whether they will feature in the 2028 Olympics squad, their contributions to Indian cricket remain invaluable. Kohli, in particular, showcased his brilliance in the semi-final against Australia with a decisive knock of 84 runs that secured India’s place in the final.
