David Miller breaks Virender Sehwag's record, hits fastest ICC Champions Trophy century

Miller was the only reason South Africa lost the semifinal by 50 runs. He was 45 (42) with one wicket left and went on to score 55 runs in the next 25 balls.

David Miller has made a name for himself in saving South Africa from trouble. The southpaw doesn’t just arrest the collapse or stabilise the thing in trouble but also possesses the ability to accelerate. In the South Africa vs. New Zealand semifinal, the match was already lost by the time Miller arrived at the crease. Proteas were 167/4 and needed 196 runs in 128 balls to reach the ICC Champions Trophy Final.

David ‘record-breaker’ Miller

It was never going to happen. But Miller never gave away hope. He led the fight singlehandedly as Aiden Markram, Wiaan Mulder, and Marco Jansen left his side. By then South Africa was 212/7 in 38 overs. They now needed 151 runs in 12 overs. Miller was 21 (23). There was virtually no point in trying to secure victory.

But Miller didn’t want to stop. He unleashed himself. In the next 44 balls, he scored 79 runs. For all he did, South Africa still lost the match by 50, but his average shot up to 153 in ICC ODI knockout matches. He also broke the record for the fastest ICC Champions Trophy hundred that was held by Virender Sehwag for the last 23 years.
