Shami has featured in all the matches that India have played in Champions Trophy 2025 so far. In his very first game of the tourney, he bagged a five-wicket haul against Bangladesh. The veteran pacer did not taste any success with the ball in the following games against Pakistan and New Zealand. However, he once again emerged as the leading wicket-taker for the Men in Blue after grabbing three wickets in the semi-final against Australia. While he is sure to play the final on Sunday, it remains to be seen how many more wickets he can add to his tally.

However, Shami faces a stiff competition in the form of a relatively inexperienced Varun Chakravarthy. He has played only two games so far in Champions Trophy as opposed to Shami’s 4. However, the mystery spinner has already taken 7 wickets in the tournament. With the Dubai pitch assisting the spinners and his mystery component set to work in his favour, Varun is most-likely to overtake Shami on the list of leading wicket-takers in CT 2025.
Just like Shami, he bagged a five-wicket haul in his very first game in Champions Trophy 2025. Not just that, it was the second best figures (5/42) registered by a player on his CT debut. In the semi-final against Australia, he finished with figures of 2/49.
