India cricket team star Rohit Sharma created history on Tuesday by becoming the first Indian skipper to lead the team to the finals of all four ICC events. The Men in Blue buried the ghosts of the 2023 ODI World Cup final by beating Australia by four wickets to qualify for the final of the ICC Champions Trophy. Rohit is now just one win away from adding another trophy to his studded cabinet.
Captain Rohit Sharma creates history
Under Rohit, Team India first made it to the World Test Championship (WTC) final in 2023 where they lost to Pat Cummins’ Australia at Lord’s. Next, they made it to the ODI World Cup final in that very same year. The Men in Blue were handed a heartbreaking defeat by the same Australia once again, who rubbed salt on the WTC final wounds that were still fresh. In 2024, Rohit Sharma-led India qualified for the final of T20 World Cup and went on to lift the trophy, ending their 17-year wait to add another title to their name. Now, the team has qualified for the ICC Champions Trophy final after beating the Aussies.

India bury ghosts of World Cup final
Batting first, Australia only managed to score 264 runs. They were choked by India’s spin unit – Jadeja and Varun Chakravarthy in particular as the duo picked up two wickets each while Axar Patel managed to get one. Shamii finished with figures of 3/48.
In response, India chased down the target in 48.1 overs with Virat Kohli proving once again why he was India’s chase master. He partnerships with Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel and KL Rahul were crucial as India never looked out of place in the run-chase. KL Rahul finished the game off for India in style with a huge maximum, thus sealing India’s berth in the finals of ICC Champions Trophy.
