Hamstrung Rohit Sharma managing injury "very well, on top of it": India assistant coach provides update

Rohit Sharma's hamstring injury was being managed by the Indian skipper very well, assistant coach ten Doeschate said

India cricket team assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate revealed that skipper Rohit Sharma was alright and was managing his injury vert well. The Hitman picked up an hamstring injury during the Champions Trophy tie against Pakistan on February 23. After skipping practice on Wednesday, Rohit returned to the nets on Friday as India geared up for their final group stage game against New Zealand.

“It’s an injury Rohit has had before”

Speaking to reporters in Dubai ahead of IND vs NZ, Doeschate pointed out that the hamstring injury was one that Rohit had previously had. He said that the Indian captain was managing his injury very well and that he was on top of it. The assistant coach also said that Rohit was back to batting and also did a little bit of fielding on Friday.

He’s alright. As you can see, he’s batting, and he did a little bit of fielding earlier. It’s an injury he’s had before and he knows how to manage it really well, and he’s on top of it,” Ryan ten Doeschate said.

In what was India’s last training session before the final league stage game, Rohit was seen batting in the nets, that too, without warming up. Even during the pre-match press conference, KL Rahul mentioned that there are no major injury concerns in the team. At practice, Rohit had a solid session, and even hit a mighty six of almost 95 metres.

On Friday, reports had claimed that a cautious Rohit Sharma could sit out of the NZ tie, given that India have already qualified for the semis. The report stated that in that case, Shubman Gill will make his debut as ODI captain.
