To say that Harsh Dubey has been outstanding in the ongoing Ranji Trophy is an understatement. The Vidarbha spinner has collected 69 wickets to his name from just 10 matches in the ongoing edition of the tournament. Along with that, he has become the bowler to take most wickets in a Ranji Trophy edition. The left-arm spinner could might as well be the backup that India would be looking at for Ravindra Jadeja. After all, his stats with the bat are pretty decent too. With two 10-wicket hauls to his name in this ongoing edition of the domestic tourney, Dubey has put himself in a frontrunner position to bag a spot in the Indian Test cricket team.
Jadeja’s replacement in Tests found?
In 17 first-class games, Harsh Dubey has 97 wickets to his name, averaging 19.69. Not to forget he still has another contest – the Ranji Trophy finals against Kerala – to add more wickets to his name. With the bat, he has scored 471 runs from 10 matches, including five half-centuries.
In his last eight innings, he has registered four scores of 50+. In his four first-class matches, he has amassed 29 wickets, a mind-boggling stat that would earn him a place in the Indian side any day. The advantage? He is a left-handed batter and bowler, someone that India would desperately need in the Tests, as a back-up for Jadeja.

Jadeja is still good to go in Tests for India, no doubt. Despite having 3370 runs and 323 wickets to his name from just 80 Tests, his career is far from over. However, he is 36-years-old, which means that the time is apt for India to start hunting for his replacement. With Ashwin calling it a day in the longest format of the game, it isn’t long before Jadeja follows suit, despite his fitness game being much better than that of Kohli’s. With India looking for a fresh approach when they take on England in their first series since the Border-Gavaaskar Trophy, Dubey might as well fit the bill and earn an call-up, at least as Jadeja’s back-up.
