The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is one of the most celebrated teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Now, the franchise is facing a big hurdle as they gear up for IPL 2025. Due to strict regulations imposed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), CSK cannot practice at their iconic home ground, Chepauk Stadium, in Chennai. This directive from the BCCI comes after consecutive Test series losses, leading the board to tighten rules, including restricting the use of stadiums to domestic games only before the IPL season kicks off.
Chepauk stadium off-limits
The BCCI’s decision has thrown a wrench in the plans of CSK and other IPL franchises. While many teams have started their preparations, those without access to multiple home grounds, like CSK, are particularly impacted. The BCCI’s stance is clear: “State associations are not allowed to host any matches apart from domestic games ahead of the IPL.” This move aims to preserve the quality of pitches and ensure better playing conditions once the IPL begins.
Training at CSK academy
In response to this challenge, the CSK team has shifted its training operations to the CSK Academy in Chennai. Here, players, including the seasoned MS Dhoni, are diligently preparing for the upcoming season. Dhoni, who has no other commitments currently, has already started practising with the team. The team’s focus at the academy remains strong, ensuring that when the IPL rolls around, they are in peak condition.
