The India Cricket Team‘s journey in the ICC Champions Trophy begins today. The Men in Blue will take on Bangladesh in their opening game. In this mega ICC tournament, Shubman Gill will serve as the team’s vice-captain. Meanwhile, ahead of the game, Rohit Sharma has revealed why Gill will be serving as his deputy.
Shubman Gill recently has become the new ICC World Number 1 batter in ODIs. He has gone on to dethrone Babar Azam from the top spot after his strong performances in the IND vs ENG ODI series. And hopes will be high on the youngster to perform well in the mega ICC event.
Shubman Gill is a Classy Player
“Gill is a very, very classy player. There was never a doubt about his ability in this squad,” Rohit said in the press conference.
While Gill’s performance in the Border Gavaskar Trophy wasn’t impressive, the young batter has been a class apart in the 50-over format. Rohit Sharma also put his trust in Gill claiming he is a very classy player and has been in top form over the last 3-4 years.
“We tend to mix formats and I don’t think that’s the right way to judge any player. With Gill, we know the numbers are crazy, he has been superb for us in the last three-four years,” Rohit added.
