Former Indian pacer Zaheer Khan named his five best ODI bowlers in the history of the format. Surprisingly, it included no Indians. The list included two Pakistan bowlers, one Sri Lankan, one Australian and South African. From the Sultan of Swing to Dale Steyn’s fiery approach, the ex-India pacer discussed who was the best in the business.
Zaheer Khan’s top 5 ODI bowlers
- Wasim Akram
- Glenn McGrath
- Waqar Younis
- Chaminda Vaas
- Dale Steyn
Zaheer named Wasim as the most impactful bowler in the ODI format around his time. He cied his yorkers, deliveries going around the wicket, over the wicket, and using those slow ones to explain why he considered him superior.
“Another name which I really looked up to also was Glenn McGrath. With the accuracy which he had, the simplicity in the action, and that extra bounce and impact with the new ball, it is something which was very evident right throughout his career, across all formats,” explained Zaheer.

Next, Zaheer said that he was impressed with Younis’ 416 wickets from 216 ODIs, adding that the number of five-wicket hauls he had taken in his career was phenomenal. The next on the list was Vaas and Zaheer explained that it was so because of his ability to cause an impact with the new ball.
Khan further said that he admired Dale Steyn for his outswingers.
“Dale Steyn is someone who we all know with his fiery approach, with his fast outswingers, is something, you know, which impact was always there. He used to get through that crease very fast and had impact through and through,” Zaheer added further.
