Former Indian captain Kapil Dev has expressed concerns over the amount of cricket being played by Indian players in a calendar year. His remarks come in the backdrop of Jasprit Bumrah being ruled out of ICC Champions Trophy due to a back injury. The World Cup-winning captain reckoned that a jam-packed schedule for the cricketers could lead to more injuries in the future.
“10 months a year…”
Apart from firing a warning over injuries to players, Kapil Dev said that there was nothing a team could do if a player was injured. He urged the Indian team to move on from Bumrah and focus on winning the Champions Trophy.
“The only thing that worries me is that they play for 10 months a year — injuries will be much more common,” Dev said, as per Indian Express.

He further questioned the need to focus on Bumrah’s absence, stressing that it was a team game and not an individual sport. He further heaped praise on youngsters, claiming that his generation was never so confident during their playing days.
“Why talk about someone who is not in the team? It’s a team game, and the team has to win, not individuals. This is not badminton, tennis, or golf; we are playing a team sport in the Champions Trophy. If we play as a team, we will definitely win,” said the 66-year-old.
“You never want your main players to get injured, but if it happens, you can’t do anything about it. Good luck to my Indian team — go and play well,” he added.
