Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) fans can finally relax, as Australian all-rounder Ellyse Perry has joined the team’s base ahead of the 2025 Women’s Premier League (WPL) season. Perry, who played a crucial role in RCB’s title win last season, faced uncertainty regarding her participation due to an injury.
Perry sustained a hip injury during Australia’s Ashes series victory over England. She fell awkwardly on her left hip during the pink-ball Test and was forced off the field. Although she attempted to bat at No.10, she appeared in pain and couldn’t make an impact. In an interview with Female Cricket, Perry indicated that she should be fit to participate in the tournament.
RCB began teasing Perry’s arrival on social media from Monday, February, and recently released a video showing her joining the squad. In the video, Perry is seen interacting with her teammates, with WWE legend ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin’s music playing in the background.
Will Ellyse Perry play WPL 2025 opener?
Perry’s arrival is a significant relief for RCB management, especially as they’ve already lost three foreign players for the upcoming campaign. Sophie Molineux and Kate Cross withdrew due to injuries, while Sophie Devine decided to take a break for the season.
Perry, the Orange Cap winner in the second season of the WPL, scored 347 runs in nine matches at an impressive average of 69.40 and a strike rate of 125.72, including two half-centuries.
RCB is set to begin their title defense against Gujarat Giants on February 14. It will be interesting to see if Perry will be part of the squad for the first game of the season.
