New Zealand cricket team have been dealt with a potential blow ahead of ICC Champions Trophy. The express pacer is also expected to miss the tri-nation series in Pakistan which commences on Saturday.

Lockie Ferguson doubtful for Champions Trophy

Ferguson was forced to limp off the field during the Qualifier 1 of ILT20 without completing his quota of four overs. He revealed that he had an unfortunate hamstring issue at the post-match presentation. The bowler was sent for scans the next day and the reports are awaited for New Zealand to take a decision on Ferguson’s participation in Champions Trophy.

Lockie had a scan yesterday [Thursday] in the UAE. We’ve got the images here and [we are] waiting for our radiologist to give us a report on the extent of it. Small hamstring injury, by the look of it, so we’re just waiting on a timeline of advice around that before we make a decision on whether Lockie travels here [Pakistan] or whether we do have to replace him for the Champions Trophy,” New Zealand head coach Gary Stead said.

Ferguson is an experienced campaigner in the ODIs for the Kiwis. With 99 wickets from 65 matches, he was expected to spearhead the pace department for Santner and co. in CT 2025. If ruled out, he could hand a blow to New Zealand as the side will have to look for a last-minute replacement.
