Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar pointed out that Rohit Sharma’s struggle to score in ODIs will be problematic for India. His remarks come after the Hitman’s poor form spilt over the 50-over format as he was dismissed for just 2 runs in IND vs ENG 1st ODI. With Sharma struggling to break free from the shackles of poor form, he is now a cause for concern for the Men in Blue ahead of ICC Champions Trophy.
Rohit Sharma struggling in ODIs isn’t a good sign
Speaking to ESPNCricinfo, Manjrekar said that Rohit would be disappointed with his dismissal in Nagpur and noted that there was pressure on the Indian captain. He said that the Hitman struggling to score in ODIs will be a problem, citing that the 50-over format was the best place for any top-order batters to get runs. Manjrekar further opined that ODIs was the best format for a player to get back to form and that if Rohit fails to do so in the IND vs ENG series or Champions Trophy, then it would be a problem.
“He’ll be disappointed with the way he got. Clearly there is pressure. If in 50-overs cricket he struggles to get runs or get a big score then we have a problem. I maintain that this is the best format for any batters, batting in the top three, to get runs and come back into form. If we don’t get to see the best of Rohit in this 3-match series and Champions Trophy, then there is a problem, Manjrekar said.

No doubt Rohit is ODI legend but what about form?
There is no doubt that Rohit is indeed one of the greatest ODI batters for India. His track record in the format is very impressive and if we speak specifically about the last 5 years, he has excelled in whatever limited opportunities he has gotten in terms of number of ODIs played. But the issue that will bother India the most is his form in general in the recent past and what toll it could take on the team in Champions Trophy.
