Shubman Gill earns Rohit’s trust
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Gill said that Rohit had asked him to provide inputs without hesitation as vice-captain. The batter had revelaed that while he did not feel the pressure during his batting, he was asked to provide inputs when India were fielding. After being named as vice-captain during IND vs SL series in 2024, Gill was entrusted with the same responsibility for IND vs ENG ODI series and CT 2025.
“I just want to take how Rohit bhai is thinking and then give whatever inputs I have. He has asked me not to hesitate in giving inputs,” Gill said.

Coming in to bat at 19/2, Gill proved why he was India’s best number 3 choice with a patient 87-run knock. He smahed 14 fours en route to his innings that helped India accomplish the run-chase with with 11.2 overs left. He played a crucial role in stitching togeher crucial partnerships with Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel.
“I was just trying to be positive. I thought there was something in it for the pacers with the new ball. It was a good call on his part (to attack). I think the pull I hit when was batting around 70 was my favourite,” Gill added.
