Harshit Rana was taken to cleaners as he was hit for 26 runs by Phil Salt in the ongoing first One-day international between India and England. But in his very next over, Rana took a prized wicket of Ben Duckett. Although Rana got his maiden ODI wicket, it was all thanks to an immaculate catch by Yashasvi Jaiswal, who dived backwards in order to shock the entire Nagpur crowd.
Travis Head-like catch by Jaiswal
Rohit brought back Harshit Rana for the last over of the powerplay and the move proved to be a masterstroke. Despite getting hit for boundaries, Rana dug in short and the left-handed Duckett skied it towards square leg region. He was looking up until that point before Jaiswal ran it backwards to complete a marvelous diving catch.
We often Jaiswal take catches in the slip cordon and this was heartening to see. As Ravi Shastri mentioned on air, it was a catch that reminded Travis Head’s brilliance during the ODI World Cup 2023 Final against India, where he sent back a dangerous Rohit Sharma with a blinder of a catch that was against the run of play.
