India has previously expressed their interest in hosting the 2036 Olympics. But now, the country has started discussions with the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) in their bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games. India wishes to host the 2030 tournament, 2 decades after having hosted the tournament back in 2010 in New Delhi.
However, this time reports from the Indian Express claim that rather than New Delhi, Ahmedabad is likely to be the frontrunner venue for the tournament. Reports also claim that Bhubaneswar can also be an option as the host city.
India keen to host 2030 Commonwealth Games
Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) president Chris Jenkins and chief executive Katie Sadlier traveled to many cities across the country attending meetings with government officials. Reports claim the duo also visited potential venues in both Ahmedabad and Bhubaneswar.
Jenkins also met Olympic Association (IOA) president P T Usha at the National Games opening ceremony. It is believed that in that event, talks of hosting the 2030 Commonwealth in India opened up. Indian Express reports that Jenkins has set the deadline of 31st March as the last date to submit an official Expression of Interest.

“CGF President Chris Jenkins was recently invited to attend the opening ceremony of the National Games in India, taking this opportunity to continue to strengthen ties between India, Commonwealth Games India, and Commonwealth Sport. The CGF recently put out the call for Expressions of Interest for the 2030 Commonwealth Games and beyond, and, during his visit to India, President Jenkins had some informal chats around this process,” CGF told Indian Express.
“They were quite impressed, there are no two ways about it. The preparation here is on an Olympic scale, so there were no concerns over the venues,” an official said.
