Rohit Sharma is at the tail end of his career. At 37 years old, he’s closer to the finish line than he has ever been. That’s why his former teammate, Suresh Raina, thinks that the Champions Trophy 2025 could be the India cricket team’s Test and ODI captain’s last ICC event.
Rohit Sharma has the chance to win 4th ICC trophy
Raina, who won three ICC trophies himself (ODI World Cup 2011, T20 World Cup 2007, and Champions Trophy 2013), wants Rohit Sharma to cap off his career by becoming the first Indian player, along with Virat Kohli, to win four ICC trophies.
“When Rohit scores runs, it also reflects in his captaincy. This could be his last ICC trophy as captain, and if he wins, he will become (alongside Virat Kohli) the first Indian player to win four ICC trophies. He has already won the T20 World Cup, and securing the Champions Trophy would be a remarkable achievement. He will be motivated to make it happen, but scoring runs will be crucial for him,” Raina said on Star Sports.

‘Aggressive’ Rohit Sharma needed to win ICC Champions Trophy
Raina believes the Indian skipper has got it in the 50-over format, and if his aggressive intent comes off, Team India has a great chance to win the ICC Champions Trophy. He did it in the ODI World Cup 2023, where the Men in Blue reached the final and then won the T20 World Cup trophy in June last year.
“I think Rohit should play aggressively. You saw how he batted in the ODI World Cup—he was attacking even in the final. So, I believe his approach will remain the same. The key question is who will open alongside him—will it be Shubman (Gill)? I remember, whenever they play together, they maintain an aggressive intent,” he added.
