Paarl Royals captain David Miller has praised Dinesh Karthik for his positive impact on the team and its younger players. Karthik, a former Indian cricketer, has contributed 97 runs in six innings during his debut SA20 season. Despite limited opportunities, Karthik scored 53 runs in a challenging match against Joburg Super Kings. “He has played for 20 years at the highest level and has vast experience. The knowledge and wisdom he has is great for the youngsters,” said Miller. Miller emphasized Karthik’s influence off the field, noting his wealth of experience and knowledge.
Miller on Joe Root
Even with Joe Root’s departure for an ODI series in India, Miller feels confident in his team’s ability to adapt. “It’s not possible to replace a player of that calibre, but we have got a squad that is very adaptable,” he shared. Despite losing their last two matches, Miller believes the team’s consistency throughout the season remains strong. “The loss in the last two matches is not a concern. It takes one or two players to step up and deliver a match-winning performance,” he said.

Miller on his future
Miller addressed concerns about his fitness after an injury sustained during a match. “I took a week off. I have done a fitness test, and it seems to be going well,” he assured. As Paarl Royals prepare to face MI CapeTown, Miller sees it as a chance to excel against strong opponents. “MI CapeTown is on fire this season, but it is a great opportunity for us to knock them off,” he remarked.
Impact of SA20 and rising talent
Miller credited SA20 for improving South African cricket, highlighting its popularity and support. “It is an unbelievable addition to the cricket of this country,” he said. He also praised 18-year-old Lhuan-dre Pretorius, calling him a promising talent. “He is a sensational talent, the way he thinks about the game at the young age is very impressive,” Miller commented.
