Australia cricket team have been dealt with a blow as Mitchell Marsh has been ruled out of ICC Champions Trophy. The injury-prone all-rounder will sit out of the tournament owing to a back injury. Marsh, who recently took part in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, never looked in fine touch in the past few games. Cricket Australia is expected to announce Marsh’s replacement in the next few days.
Marsh ruled out of Champions Trophy
Cricket Australia issued a statement on Friday stating that Marsh had been ruled out of Champions Trophy as he had not sufficiently responded to rehabilitation from his injury. The statement said that he had suffered a lower back flare up which led to the medical team deciding to extend his recovery period. The all-rounder will now undergo further rest and rehabilitation as a part of his return to action.
“Mitchell Marsh has been ruled out of the upcoming ICC Men’s Champion’s Trophy with ongoing lower back pain and dysfunction,” CA said in a statement today.

Australia are now dealt with a double blow, with uncertainity over Pat Cummins’ availability for CT 2025. The Australian skipper is currently out of action due to an ankle injury while also expecting the birth of his second child. Marsh, who was seen as a replacement for Pat, will now have to sit out of the tournament. The Australian selectors are expected to meet over the next few days to decide on his replacement.
Earlier during the IND vs AUS Test series, several questions were raised on Marsh’s fitness. The very fact that he wasn’t used effectively in bowling had sparked questions on his fitness. Without the services of Cameron Green – another all-rounder who is currently recovering after going under the knife last year – Australia are staring at quite a big problem.
