After 1 year and 5 months and 7 games later, Brazilian superstar Neymar has left Saudi Arabia. The Samba King joined Saudi Pro League giants Al Hilal back in 2023 August. He has featured for the Saudi club a total of 7 times and now has mutually terminated his contract. Neymar is slated to travel back to Brazil to rejoin boyhood club Santos. In the meantime, Neymar has earned a staggering $22.28 million per game with Saudi champs.
Neymar began his journey at Santos where he played from 2009 to 2013 before traveling to Catalonia to join Barcelona. After an eventful campaign in Ligue 1 with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), Neymar joined Al Hilal in August 2023 for a whopping price of £77.6 m.
Neymar has played just 3 league matches without scoring a goal. His only goal came in the AFC Champions League. After joining the Saudi giants, Neymar suffered an ACL injury which saw him missing an entire year. This season he made 2 appearances, with his latest outing coming in November as a substitute.
“The club expresses its thanks and appreciation to Neymar for what he has provided throughout his career at Al-Hilal, and wish the player success in his career,” Al-Hilal said.
Neymar joined the Saudi giants for a price of £129.2 m and had 7 months remaining on his two-year deal. The majority of his time at the club was spent in recovery when he suffered an ACL injury in Brazil’s World Cup qualifier against Uruguay in October 2023
Neymar made his return in October 2024 but then went on to suffer a hamstring injury. He still remains the most expensive player after his £200m move to the French capital from Barcelona in 2027. At PSG, he managed to win 5 Ligue 1 titles.
