During the 36th match of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25 at the Gabba, between Brisbane Heat and Hobart Hurricanes, something unusual happened. A fire broke out in the DJ Booth on the third level of the stadium. This happened after four overs into the second innings of the match while the Hobart Hurricanes were batting. Because of this, the game was paused for a few minutes. A man tried to put out the fire using a fire extinguisher.
Despite his efforts, it wasn’t enough, and another fire extinguisher was needed. Fans sitting nearby were quickly moved to safety. After some hard work, the fire was finally brought under control.
No casualities
The fire broke out near the scoreboard, and several staff members at the Gabba tried to put it out but couldn’t. According to local reports, nobody was injured. The spectators sitting close to the scoreboard were moved to another area as a safety measure. At the time of the incident, the Hurricanes were batting with a score of 47/0 after four overs, chasing Brisbane’s score of 201/6, when the game was paused for some time.
