The 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to commence on March 21, 2025. Eden Gardens in Kolkata will host the opening match of IPL 18. This decision aligns with the tradition of hosting the first match at the home ground of the previous edition’s winners, which in this case is the Kolkata Knight Riders.
The IPL 2025 season will run until May 25, 2025, with the final match also likely to be held at Eden Gardens. The playoffs will follow a similar tradition, with two playoff games hosted at Eden Gardens and the remaining two at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

While the official schedule is not yet announced, the idea is to reduce the workload on players participating in the ICC Champions Trophy, which will be held in Pakistan and the UAE from February 19 to March 9, 2025. This change ensures that players get adequate rest before the start of the IPL season.
