One of the world’s most celebrated footballer Lionel Messi is finally coming to India. Kerala’s sports minister, V Abdurahiman, announced at an event in Kozhikode that Messi and his team are expected to visit Kerala for a week in the later months of 2025.

When is Messi coming?

During the visit, Messi is scheduled to participate in a friendly match and appear on a public stage for a brief interaction. “For seven days from October 25 to November 2, Messi will be in Kerala. Apart from the friendly match, he will be on a public dias for twenty minutes to see you all.” However, there are no official FIFA international windows during these dates, raising questions about the announcement’s accuracy.

When Messi won the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar, after Argentina’s thrilling victory over France, he got immense support and excitement from fans in India, particularly in Kerala.

Messi’s stellar career Achievements

Messi is currently playing with Inter Miami in the MLS, and he is in the later stages of his illustrious career. He has achieved numerous accolades, including eight Ballon d’Or awards and eight FIFA Best Player titles. As the most decorated player in professional football, Messi has won 45 team trophies, including Champions League titles, Copa Americas, and a World Cup.

Additional records held by Messi

Messi holds the record for the most European Golden Shoes, goals for a single club (672 with Barcelona), and assists in La Liga. He is Argentina’s all-time leading goalscorer and has been a key player since taking the national team captaincy in 2011, leading them to several finals.

The last time when Messi came

Messi came to India in 2011. Messi and the Argentina national team played an international friendly match against Venezuela in Kolkata. It was Messi’s only visit to the country. The match ended with Argentina reserving a 1-0 victory, showing Messi’s brilliance on the field. The atmosphere was electrifying at the Salt Lake Stadium as over 75,000 fans packed the stadium to witness Messi’s magic in person.
