Ravindra Jadeja’s future in ODIs is in the hands of the selectors as a transition would mean he could lose his spot in the side. The all-rounder, who retired from T20Is after the World Cup triumph, is now expected to next feature in Champions Trophy 2025. As per reports, the selectors may be mulling to move on from Jadeja as he doesn’t fit well in Gautam Gambhir’s vision for ODI Word Cup in 2027.
Jadeja’s ODI career hangs in balance
As per Times of India, a BCCI source said that the selectors might think of moving on from Jadeja when they decide to enforce transition. The source claimed that Gambhir had always been assertive about creating a core team for all formats and that he had a clear vision for ODI World Cup 2024. The source added that it was upto the selectors if they wanted to go ahead with the “safe option” Jadeja or move on.
“It’s all about when the selectors decide the transition needs to kick in. They will discuss if they want to go with a safe option in Jadeja or move on right now,” the source added. Even in Test cricket, he has struggled to get going, though his bowling has been steady. There is an urge to move on from him, especially in the ODI format. It will be a tough call in the coming days.” the source said

After featuring in the T20 World Cup in 2024, Jadeja mostly played red-ball cricket in the series against Bangladesh and New Zealand. He then went on to warm the bench for the first three Tests in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and played in the last two games. He is now expected to picked as one of India’s primary spinners for the Champions Trophy. The matches will be held in Dubai which is known to be favourable to the spinners.
“For the Champions Trophy, selectors will be aware that pitches in Dubai have historically been helpful to slow bowlers,” the source added.
