Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali reckons that Jasprit Bumrah will mostly not feature in the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025. The fiery Indian pacer suffered a back spasm during the IND vs AUS 5th Test in Sydney and even underwent scans midway through the game. With less than three days left for the deadline for teams to submit their provisional squads, Ali has said that there are very few chances of the pacer making it to the tournament.
Will Jasprit Bumrah play in Champions Trophy 2025?
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ali claimed that Jasprit Bumrah has 10% chances of making it to the squad. The pacer is indeed India’s premium all-format bowler who just proved his worth yet again in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. However, he was also India’s most overworked bowler across formats last year.
“Bumrah ka dekhenge (kya) announcement hoti hai…, mera khayal hai dus percent chance hai (let’s see what the announcement is around Bumrah; I think he has a 10 percent chance),” said Basit.

The BCCI medical team or the NCA is yet to provide an official update on the status of Bumrah’s injury. Earlier on Day 2 of IND vs AUS 5th Test, Prasidh Krishna had informed that the pacer had suffered a back spasm. While some Australian reports claimed that he had suffered a side strain, there has been no word yet from the BCCI on the bowler. With the January 12 deadline looming for the squad announcement ahead of CT 2025, the suspense over Bumrah still continues.
India will head into Champions Trophy with Mohammed Siraj spearheading the pace attack in the absence of Bumrah. Shami, another pacer who’s recovery status remains a suspense, is reportedly set to be included in the squad for the marquee tournament. Southpaw Arshdeep Singh will be third in command while India also have the Hardik Pandya as their fourth pacer.
