In what could be a big blow to Bangladehs cricket team, Shakib al Hasan has failed the second bowling test that was ordered by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). The veteran all-rounder was reported for suspect action during the County Championship following which he was barred from bowling in England’s domestic tourneys until he passes an independent test. While Hasan failed the first test in Loughborough University, he has now once again done so again, putting his chances of bowling in the future at jeopardy.
Shakib al Hasan can’t bowl in Champions Trophy?
As per Daily Star Bangladesh, Shakib failed the second bowling test that was held in Chennai on December 21, 2024. The report states that the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) was awaiting the results of the test to take on a call on the veteran’s inclusion in the squad for Champions Trophy 2025. While he does have another chance with a third test scheduled for in the coming weeks, Hasan’s prospects of returning to the side for the marquee event seems to be pretty bleak as of moment.

As per ICC rules, a player banned by a domestic body from bowling for suspect action cannot bowl in international cricket as the global body automatically recognises the suspension and is enforced for international cricket as well. Further, Shakib must also undergo another bowling test to prove his action at an ICC centre even though he clears ECB’s test.
“In the county match, an on-field umpire reported that he felt the action was suspect. If Shakib wants to further play domestic cricket in England, he will have to appear in a test,” a BCB official had informed earlier.
Shakib al Hasan’s future with Bangladesh
Shakib al Hasan is yet to play a match for Bangladesh since the conclusion of the IND vs BAN Test series. While he announced his plans to retire from the longest format with a farewell Test at home, it did not happen as he refused to participate in the series against South Africa. BCB president Faruque Ahmed had hinted at the all-rounder’s return just before Champions Trophy 2025. It remains to be seen how Shakib’s white-ball future unfolds, given that he had held back his retirement plans until CT 2025.
