Former India cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly has reckoned that Rohit Sharma has three innings left under his belt to redeem himself or risk ending his Test career. The Hitman hasn’t been in the best of the form in the latter half of 2024 and has only managed to score 22 runs so far in IND vs AUS Test series. Moreover, he has also come under the firing line for his decisions as a captain and has been criticised over team selection and poor strategy.
‘Rohit Sharma has no clue’
Speaking to TV9 Bangla, Ganguly opined that he had no idea where Rohit was mentally, while refusing to comment on his future. Earlier, a BCCI official had told Insidesport that the decision on the Hitman’s future will be taken after the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and not midway through the series. Ganguly pointed out that apart from the 2nd innings in Melbourne, Sharma had two more innings left to score runs and extend his Test career.
“I don’t know where Rohit is mentally. It is very difficult to comment right now. is not able to score runs. He played a loose shot in the first innings. There is a second innings here in Melbourne and two more innings in Sydney so he needs to play well,” Sourav Ganguly said.

Sunil Gavaskar echoed a similar sentiment on Sharma’s future. The former Indian captain told Sports Tak, “The next three innings will decide Rohit Sharma’s Test future.” 2024 hasn’t been kind to Rohit, especially in the second half. In his last 14 innings, he scored just 155 runs at 11.07 and has got just one fifty. He’s also lost four of his last five matches as captain, which includes the humiliating whitewash (0-3) at home against New Zealand.
