The Australian men’s domestic One-Day Cup has been renamed the Dean Jones Trophy to honour a cricketer who significantly transformed the limited-overs format. Dean Jones, remembered for his innovative style and outstanding contributions, was selected after a comprehensive review process initiated by Cricket Australia earlier this year. Part of the discussions were also Andrew Symonds and Michael Bevan.
How did CA come up with Dean Jones Trophy?
Cricket Australia (CA) launched a campaign to determine a suitable name for the tournament, with fans nominating candidates on its digital platforms. Jones, alongside Michael Bevan and Andrew Symonds, formed the final shortlist assessed by the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame committee. Key considerations included their domestic records, international achievements, and association with the 50-over format.
