The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup has been running since 2009, and today at Lord’s we get the 10th champion. Sophie Molineux’s Australia won their 7th title on Sunday, as they beat hosts England by 7 wickets, while chasing an easy 151.
England started it all in 2009 under Charlotte Edwards, winning the inaugural edition at home. After that, Australia took over. Led by different captains across the years, the Aussies have been the most dominant team with a record six titles. Their winning run made them the team to beat in every edition. The last tournament in 2024 saw a big change. New Zealand broke through for their first title, ending years of Australian and English dominance.
Before that, teams like India and South Africa had reached finals but finished as runners-up. The Indian women’s team have surpassed the W-ODIs hurdle but haven’t won the T20 World Cup ever. They failed to reach the semi-final stage this time around in England. The 2026 edition has been the biggest yet with 12 teams. England have ridden home support and Nat Sciver-Brunt’s form to reach the final, while Australia cruised past the West Indies in the semis to keep their dynasty alive.
