In a latest, former India wicket-keeper Ajay Ratra has been named the newest member of the men’s selection committee headed by Ajit Agarkar. Ratra will come in a replacement to Salil Ankola in the committee, as per a BCCI release. The 42-year-old former cricketer from Faridabad is most remembered for his 115 vs the West Indies in 2002, at St. Johns.

In his short international career, he went on to represent India in 6 Tests and 12 ODIs. Apart from that, he was a domestic veteran, having played 90 FC matches, and scoring 4000 runs in them. He also effected 240 dismissals in those matches.
The BCCI release for his appointment read, “As a selector, Mr. Ratra will work alongside the existing members of the selection committee to identify and support the next generation of cricketers who will represent India on the global stage.

“Ratra has an extensive coaching experience having worked as a Head Coach of Assam, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. He was also a part of the coaching staff of the Indian team during their ODI series in South Africa in 2023.
“His insights will be instrumental to the committee in ensuring that the best talent is identified, nurtured, and given the opportunity to excel at the highest level.”
