One of Pakistan’s greatest batters, Younis Khan, feels that India should come to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy. The burden of this, according to him, falls upon newly elected ICC Chairman, Jay Shah. As of now, there is little to no chance for India travelling to Pakistan due to the geopolitical tensions between the nations.
Step towards right directly
Pakistan has played in India multiple times in the last two decades, but the Men in Blue haven’t gone across the border since the 2008 Asia Cup. Younis feels that since Jay Shah won’t be the BCCI Secretary anymore, he should grow the game and take a direction towards the improvement of the relationship between India and Pakistan by ensuring BCCI sends the team next year for the ICC Champions Trophy.
“The cricket should uplift with the appointment of Jay Shah as the ICC chief. Jay Shah needs to show the sportsman spirit, as with the good initiatives of the ICC chief, India can come to Pakistan to play cricket. In the same way, Pakistan can visit India,” he added.
India’s proposed schedule
If India indeed travels to Pakistan, they are scheduled to play all the matches at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. According to the proposed schedule by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), India are in Group A alongside Bangladesh, New Zealand, and Pakistan. They’ll play matches on February 20, February 23, and March 1. If they qualify for the semifinal, the Men in Blue will play the knockout game in Lahore as well, and the final is already scheduled at the Gaddafi Stadium on March 9.
