Artur Beterbiev amateur record

The Russian-born Canadian has a reported 96-10 amateur boxing record. Out of the 96 victories, 24 have come by way of knockout. However, Beterbiev also has ten losses to his name in the amateur scene, including some losses against boxing’s current stars.

Beterbiev started his amateur journey in 2004 and started with a win. His first defeat in the amateur scene came in just his third fight against compatriot Mikhail Gala in 2004. Beterbiev lost to Gala again the following year.

Of the ten losses, two came against current unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk. The pair first faced off in 2007. Beterbiev got the better of Usyk in their first meeting, beating the Ukrainian on points.

However, in 2011, the two faced off at the AIBA World Championships in the quarter-finals. Usyk beat Beterbiev on points to avenge in his loss in 2007. And then, in 2012, in what would be Beterbiev’s last amateur bout, he faced Usyk again.

The two entered in the ring in the 2012 Olympics in London at the quarter-final stage. And yet again Usyk beat Beterbiev on points to advance to the next round. After that defeat to Usyk, Beterbiev turned professional. And the rest, as they say, is history.
