Asian Para Games: Pramod Bhagat, Suhas Yathiraj, Thulasimathi win Badminton titles

Para Shuttlers Pramod Bhagat, Suhas Yathiraj and Thulasimathi added gold medals to India's tally at the Asian Para Games

India’s ace shuttlers Pramod Bhagat and Suhas Yathiraj marked their dominance in the Asian Para Games 2023. Both the shuttlers won the gold medal in Men’s Singles in their respective categories on Friday, 27th October. Meanwhile in the Women’s Singles, Thulasimathi secured another gold medal.

Pramod Bhagat defeats compatriot Nitesh Kumar

In the SL 3 event, Pramod edged past his national compatriot Nitesh Kumar. The closely fought contest saw Pramod seal the first game 22-20.

In the second game, Nitesh bounced back. He grabbed it 21-18 to take the contest into the decider. The experienced Pramod Bhagat however took away the deciding set with a 21-19 to get his hands on the gold medal.

With the win, the 35 year old has successfully defended his Men’s singles title at the Asian Para Games. Nitesh Kumar meanwhile won his maiden individual medal at the Asian Para Games.

Suhas Yathiraj wins maiden Asian Para Games Gold

Suhas Yathiraj bagged the gold medal in the Men’s Singles SL4 category. He was facing Malaysia’s Burhanuddin Mohammad Amin in the final. In the first game, the Indian couldn’t do much as he went down 13-21.

But Suhas fought back in the next two games. He made Amin to work for his points and won it 21-18. In the decider, Suhas went on to dominate the game completely to clinch a 21-9 victory. It was his maiden individual medal at the Asian Para Games.

Meanwhile, Murugesan Thulasimathi added another gold medal in the SU5 Women’s Singles category. She defeated China’s Yang Qiuzia in straight games 21-19, 21-19. Krishna Nagar lost the men’s singles SH6 final and settled for a silver medal.
