Tokyo Olympics: PV Sindhu vs Tai Tzu Ying – India’s top shuttler PV Sindhu missed the chance to better the colour of her silver medal in the Tokyo Olympics after losing to her nemesis Chinese Taipei’s Tai Tzu-Ying in the semi-finals on Saturday. She lost the match 21-18, 21-12. After the match, Sindhu said it although she had prepared for Tai Tzu’s skills, it wasn’t her day.
“I’m a bit sad because it’s the semifinals, but I tried my best. It was just not my day. I fought until the end. It’s sad I couldn’t go to the finals. A lot of people from India have supported me and shown me their love but it just wasn’t my day and I’m going to try again tomorrow,” PV Sindhu told BWF.
Tokyo Olympics: PV Sindhu vs Tai Tzu Ying: In 18 matches before the semifinals, PV Sindhu had an abysmal 5-13 head-to-head record. On Saturday, the Indian shuttler although started well and led before the break but Tai Tzu Ying came back strongly to claim the game 21-18. The second game was rather one-sided as PV Sindhu faded away slowly against the Chinese Taipei contender and failed to match Tai Tzu Ying’s skills.
“I was prepared for her skills, so I don’t think that troubled me a lot. At the end of the day, the level of the semifinals is going to be really high – you can’t expect easy points. I just couldn’t be on the winning side,” she told BWF.
Tokyo Olympics: PV Sindhu vs Tai Tzu Ying: Tokyo Olympics was PV Sindhu’s golden chance after winning the World Championships last year. With Carolina Marin and compatriot Saina Nehwal out of the Tokyo Games, she had to bring her best game against Tai Tzu Ying. But it wasn’t anywhere close to her form that she showed against Akane Yamaguchi in the quarterfinals.
“I should have taken the first game, that’s what I felt. It’s not easy but it was crucial. It’s all in the game and I have to take it in a positive way. If I had won the first game, it would have been different,” PV Sindhu told Sportstar.
“Even in the second game, from the start, I was fighting back and getting a couple of points but even she didn’t make any unforced errors. At the end of the day, it is the semifinal and everyone will be at their top level. It’s a bit sad that I am not on the winning side but I have one more match to go so I need to keep my tempo going, recover soon and come back tomorrow,” she added.
Tokyo Olympics: PV Sindhu vs Tai Tzu Ying: PV Sindhu will now play for bronze on Sunday and must focus on another nemesis in He BingJiao. Sindhu doesn’t have a good head-to-head record against the Chinese opponent either but will take confidence from her win against BingJiao from the World Championship final.
“I think it’s going to be a bit sad but I need to concentrate on that. It’s not over yet. I still have a chance. So I hope I give my best,” PV Sindhu said.
