A few days ago, two gunmen targeted the Rosario supermarket Unico which is owned by Antonella Roccuzzo’s family. According to reports, the two gunmen were on a bike and approaching the market, they fired 14 shots at the closed shutters of the store. Then they left a note which read, “Messi, we are waiting for you. Javkin (Rosario’s mayor) is a drug dealer. He is not going to look after you.”

The Roccuzzo family confirmed that they did not receive any threats after that. However, Pablo Javkin, the mayor of Rosario lamented the increase in drug-related crime in the city. He added that the available police force is not fighting these mafias and the available number of police is not enough as well. However, he said previously that under such circumstances, protecting the Roccuzzo family would be their top priority.

Argentina’s president, Alberto Fernandez echoed the words of Mayor Pablo Javkin. He said, “I woke up (on Thursday) with very ugly news. I immediately contacted (Mayor Pablo Javkin) I spoke directly with the chief of staff. I told him that something else will have to be done. We are doing a lot, but obviously, something more will have to be done. The problem of violence and organized crime is very serious.”

Football for the country is not only a game, but it has also been a way of life for all Argentines. That’s why as the Argentina national team won their third FIFA World Cup and second major international trophy in two years, it brought the whole nation together.

As per reports, around two million people gathered in central Buenos Aires near the iconic Obelisk when Argentina won the World Cup. Seeing how the two major wins have affected the nation positively, it can be guessed that it does not sit well with the criminals who thrive on the downfall of the country.
