Buttler shows special gesture
Buttler, 31, was confirmed as England’s new white-ball captain last month following Morgan’s international retirement as skipper. As a gesture, Buttler gifted his predecessor Morgan two bottles of wine worth a combined £880 on the morning of second ODI at Lord’s.
Buttler gave Morgan a vintage 2016 Opus One wine as a gift.After Joe Root left the captaincy of the England Test team, the ECB handed over the responsibility of the England Test team to Ben Stokes. Former England limited overs captain Eoin Morgan and current Test captain Ben Stokes in one frame.
Morgan’s words during the special gesture
“It is the greatest honour to captain your country – I can’t wait to take this team forward.”
Morgan, 35, quit the role after seven-and-a-half years.
He departed as England’s leading run scorer and most capped player in both white-ball formats.
Morgan felt he was struggling during England’s recent trip to face the Netherlands.
But Buttler hasn’t fared much better, enduring a rocky start to life as captain, winning just one of four games.

Tough start for Buttler
- Buttler started his reign on low note as he lost the T20 series .
- This was followed by another defeat in ODI series at Oval.
- However, Buttler and Co recovered well to win the second ODI in Lord’s thanks to the clinical display from Reece Topley.
- England won by 100 runs to register their first win under new permanent captain Jos Buttler.
- They will now be looking to win the series as both England and India head into Sunday’s final clash with the series level at 1-1.
