RCB vs MI: RCB win last-ball thriller, top IPL 2026 points table

RCB have pulled a Houdini act in Raipur. With 9 needed off 3, they've somehow won the match. A six by Bhuvneshwar Kumar and a double off the last ball owing to a misfield by Raj Bawa have seen them win and move to the top of the points table.

Shepherd walks back with 4 off 11. A stinker of a innings. It's tough to see how RCB win from here. Had Shepherd scored even 11 off 11, RCB could've won.

Krunal Pandya has smashed 2 sixes off Allah Ghazanfar. He'd laid down on the ground after each hit, as he's battling cramps. One can't forget that Tilak Varma missed a catch, assuming that Naman Dhir had stepped over the rope and the ball was a six. But on the last ball of the over, Tilak makes up for it with a great running catch at long-on.

But what a knock from Krunal. Now, it's upto Romario Shepherd to win the game for RCB.

Another wicket for Bosch. The same pattern again. Short ball banged into the surface. Jitesh skies it and finds Naman Dhir at backward point. And he does the same to Tim David, who under edges the ball to the keeper. All of a sudden, MI are equals to win.

Krunal Pandya has done his job. A fifty from just 32 balls. He's way ahead of the required strike rate. RCB are in a good position to win from here with Romario Shepherd and Tim David left.

MI missed the trick by giving the ball to Raj Bawa, the youngster went for 16 and all the pressure just evaporated. Taking wickets is essential. MI can't win without taking risks. Holding Bumrah back, for even one over, seems like a critical error.

RCB are back on top, needing just 57 off 36.

Bosch bowls a bad ball on the pads but Bethell flicks to Tilak Varma at deep square leg. A poor knock, 27 off 27, ends. RCB might be a spot of bother all of a sudden. In walks Jitesh Sharma. He plays 5 dots and Bosch has just bowled a wicket maiden.

Bethell is just rotating the strike while Pandya takes Jacks and Raj Bawa on. The required run rate is still around 9.

Krunal Pandya started aggressively but he has been tied down since. Scoring isn't easy. The inconsistent bounce has caused him trouble and an off-spinner, Will Jacks, bowling to him hasn't helped yet. Krunal is trying to take Jacks on, but Bethell is actually batting a slower pace.

Right now, runs aren't as important as saving the wicket. The required run rate is still around 9. Anything around 12 will be gettable if they have wickets in hand, which they have right now.

Corbin Bosch was expected to do well, considering he's a hit-the-deck bowler and guess what? He has struck on his first ball. RCB captain Rajat Patidar walks back for 8. RCB are in a load of trouble here.

The ball is swinging miles for Chahar. But luck wasn't on his side. Frustrated, he goes round the wicket, gets hit for a six and then traps Devdutt Padikkal with a beautiful delivery around off stump. Mumbai is back in it.

MI have subbed leg spinner Raghu Sharma for Rohit Sharma. Meanwhile, Jacob Bethell has the 167-run chase with 2 four as Deepak Chahar has started poorly with the new ball once again.

Man of the moment Bhuvneshwar Kumar has revealed what he thinks of the wicket, how to play on it and how he managed to claim a 4-wicket haul. Here's what he told the broadcaster:

"Honestly, it was a tricky wicket. It looks like you're going to have a good time as a bowler. The next ball goes for a boundary. So yes, it was a tricky wicket, but we did well. We had a few plans going into the match. Before the match, we planned a few things, and we executed them really well. I was thinking that I was being proactive. I was thinking Rohit might step out, given the way he has played me in the past. So I thought that he might step out and bowl that ball. And again, Suryakumar was new at the crease. I wanted to bowl the length ball, and that worked. (Is the length ball the best ball?) Probably yes; if it's working for you, then it's the best ball for sure. But you know, the way the wicket behaved, I think a length ball is the best ball to bowl today. (What's going to be the key for your batters?) As I said, it was a tricky wicket, but the advantage we might have is that there's going to be dew from the first ball. The batsmen who timed the ball and batted well rather than those who tried to muscle the ball. I think that's going to be the key for us. I'm backing my batsmen to chase this down."

Mumbai Indians manage just 166/7 in 20 overs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar made the difference with four wickets, three of which came in the powerplay and the last one of Tilak Varma in the 18th over. Tilak Varma (57 off 42) and Naman Dhir (47 off 32) tried their best with an 82-run stand. But other MI batters did not have their day as they scored just 30/2 in the death overs.

Josh Hazlewood gets a wicket in his last delivery as Raj Angad Bawa hits it straight to Rajat Patidar on a low full tos delivery. Mumbai lose their 7th wicket for 161.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar ends his 4-over quota with a four-fer as he cleans up Tilak Varma. The Mumbai batter tried to scoop but the ball took an inside edge to shatter his stumps. Bhuvneshwar ends his quota with 4/23. He has already surpassed Anshul Kamboj for the Purple Cap with 21 wickets this season.

Tilak Varma gets to his second 50+ score this season with a boundary against Rasikh Salam. He gets to the milestone off 37 balls. Tilak has held the MI batting together today. But now, he needs to unleash.

Romario Shepherd strikes and Mumbai Indians have been dealt a huge blow. Will Jacks departs for 10 as he tries to pull a slower delivery by Shepherd. With Jacks gone, Tilak will have to take the onus to score runs and take Mumbai to a safe total.

Five overs to go, and Will Jacks has joined Tilak Varma in the middle. Jacks will be crucial for Mumbai to post a 200-run total, with Tilak striking at below 130. Mumbai are 131/4.

Rasikh Salam Dar has broken the partnership as he cleans up Naman Dhir with a delivery that kept low. The 82-run stand comes to an end as Dhir departs for 47 off 32.

Mumbai Indians are 82/3 at the halfway stage with the scoring rate taking a hit after the powerplay. But with Naman Dhir and Tilak Varma adding a half-century stand, MI can believe.

After the three quick wickets, Naman Dhir and Tilak Varma have taken the responsibilities, helping MI post 53/3 in the powerplay.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar rocked the powerplay with three wickets for 17 runs. After Ryan Rickleton fell in the first over, he dismissed Rohit Sharma (22 off 10) and Suryakumar Yadav (0 off 1) in consecutive deliveries.

Ryan Rickleton skied a chance on the first ball but it fell just short of Rajat Patidar. But on the last ball of the first over, his luck runs out as Patidar takes the catch at the same spot with Bhuvneshwar Kumar striking in the first over.

Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickleton begin for Mumbai Indians. It is relatively unknown pitch and these two will have to start well and give Mumbai a platform.

No Hardik Pandya yet, Suryakumar Yadav continues to lead Mumbai Indians. But it's Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain Rajat Patidar who wins the toss and opts to bowl first in Raipur.

Even though Hardik Pandya has rejoined the squad in Raipur, along with Suryakumar Yadav, it is unlikely that Mumbai Indians will rush his return. Hardik suffered from back spasms. With form not on his side, MI might opt for Suryakumar to continue leading in this game.

The math here is ugly. Mumbai Indians are placed 9th with just three wins from 10 matches and need to win all their remaining games to stay in playoff contention. Even four wins on the bounce would only take them to 14 points, and they'd then need other results to break their way too, particularly with their net run rate sitting in minus territory. Realistically, MI need to win out and hope DC, KKR and one of GT/RR drop crucial games. Not impossible. But it's the kind of run a team in form pulls off, and MI haven't been in form all year.

The key implication for Sunday: a loss for MI essentially ends their IPL 2026 season. A win keeps the hope, however slim, alive.

Mumbai's situation is grimmer. A playoff spot is on the line, with MI needing to win all four remaining matches to have a real shot. Hardik Pandya joined the squad in Raipur after missing the previous game with back spasms and is being assessed. Suryakumar Yadav arrived only on Sunday morning. Rohit Sharma's return has steadied the top. Naman Dhir has been excellent, but Tilak Varma has been inconsistent apart from the century. The bowling is the worry. Bumrah is still searching for full rhythm, and the unit as a whole has leaked runs at almost every venue.

RCB's title defence has been broadly solid but is showing cracks. A banana-peel loss to LSG saw them slip from the top two, with Josh Hazlewood going at economy rates of 12.25 and 14 in his last two outings. Jacob Bethell has scored just 43 runs in four innings as Phil Salt's replacement. 

Hazlewood has been targeted by Gill and Buttler in Ahmedabad and Marsh and Pant in Lucknow. The batting still has Kohli, Patidar and Padikkal in good touch. Krunal Pandya has been excellent with the ball through the middle overs. But the bowling has lost some bite, and Bethell hasn't replaced what Salt was doing at the top.

Raipur is largely an unknown quantity. The last IPL game in Raipur was played in 2016, and only two T20Is have been played here since January 2018. Both teams are walking into conditions they barely know.

What we do have is the venue's recent character. Six IPL matches have been played here in total, with chasing teams winning on the majority of occasions. The pitch tends to get easier to bat on as the match progresses, and spinners have generally extracted more help from the surface. The Raipur surface is generally considered batting-friendly, especially under lights, with fast bowlers getting slight seam movement with the new ball before the pitch settles.

The other consideration is recency. The pitches in Raipur are traditionally slow, but this one is expected to be good for batting. That could be challenged by the rains that pelted on Saturday. If dew arrives as expected, chasing could become considerably easier during the second innings, and a first-innings score around 180 may not feel safe unless bowlers adapt quickly to night conditions.
