Mohammad Amir will play for Nott Outlaws in the T20 Blast as a domestic player, after securing the citizenship recently.

After being sidelined from the Pakistan national team for year, pacer Mohammed Amir is set to start his cricketing journey afresh, as he would be joining Notts Outlaws for the remainder of the T20 Blast 2026, as a domestic player. The 34-year-old has become a British citizen now, and will be a domestic cricketer in England’s local tournaments, increasing opportunities for him.

From Pakistan pacer to England pacer

The same was confirmed by Nottinghamshire. “As a British passport holder, Amir will not be counted as an overseas player for the duration of his stay at Trent Bridge, which includes any potential knockout matches that Notts may play,” said the club. On the other hand, Amit too sounded chuffed, at the prospect of representing Notts.

“I’m really excited to have joined Notts. I’ve heard lots of good things about this club, and I’m looking forward to it,” said Amir. “I have lots and lots of memories at Trent Bridge, and I know that T20 is all about entertaining the people, so I’ll be trying my best to do well for this team and make this crowd happy,” he added.

Amir has had a topsy-turvy career throughout, where he finally retired after the T20 World Cup 2024. It was only last month that he acquired the British citizenship. And all this happened with the help of his wife, who is herself a British citizen. Amir, meanwhile, is a vastly experienced T20 bowler, having played 364 matches, and picked up 425 wickets at an average of 22.63 and an economy of 7.36.

Experience on Mohammad Amir’s side

For Pakistan, he played 36 Tests, 61 ODIs and 62 T20Is, and picked up 271 wickets in all. He perhaps could be seen playing FC cricket too, when the English season begins. Having said that, it remains to be seen, if Mohammad Amir would be able to register his name for the IPL or not.

Having become a British citizen, one doesn’t know. Earlier, Azhar Mahmood had also played in the IPL for PBKS and KKR — in the years 2012, 2013 and 2015. But since last year, the probability remains low, after the relationship between India and Pakistan went for a toss, after the ghastly Pahalgam attack.
