US Open Qualifiers LIVE: Indians campaign at the US Open qualifiers has come to an end as Yuki Bhambri who was the only Indian to qualify for the second round lost to Zizou Bergs 6-3, 6-2 in the second round of the qualifiers on Thursday. Bhambri has made it to the second round after clinching an upset win over ninth seed Radu Albot. He won the contest in straight sets to enter second round. The match began with both the players staring off well. They held on to their first three service games as the scores were level 3-3 in the first set. Things however chnaged quickly as Bergs got the firtst break in against Bhambri in the eight game to lead 5-3. He then won his next service game to win the first set 6-3.
In the second set too after Bhambri won his first service game, Bergs started dominated as he won the next three games successively breaking Bhambri once in the process to take 3-1 lead.
- Yuki Bhambri, who is playing on a protected ranking has displayed sublime Tennis to defeat World No. 107 Radu Abot in straight sets in the first round.
- The 29-year old Indin spent the most part of last three years nursing knee injuries and recovering from multiple operations.
- He played his first Grand Slam qualifier earlier this year at the Australian Open, where he lost in the second round of the qualifiers. He then bowed out from the second round at Maharashtra Open. At the Dubai Tennis Championships too he faced second round defeat.
- He then began focusing on doubles, partnering with compatriot Saketh Myneni in the challenger events and returned to singles at the French Open qualier, where he bowed out from the first round.
- At the Wimbledon Qualifier too he suffered first round defeat by losing in straight sets to Zapata Miralles 7-5, 6-1.
- He clinched his second victory at a Grand Slam qualifier this year on Wednesday by defeating Rad Albot in the first round.
- Meanwhile, 23-year old Zizou Bergs started the ATP tour this year by withdrawing midway through his first round contest at Australian Open Qualifiers after suffering injury.
- He then qualified for the main draw of the Open 13 and lost to Holger Rune in a three-setter in the first round of the main draw.
- At the French Open qualifiers, he bowed out from the first round after losing to Jason Jung in straight sets in the first round.
- He directly qualified for the main draw of the Wimbledon and faces Jack Draper in the first round. He suffered a straight set defeat in the contest.
- The 155th ranked Belgian is now looking to reach the third round of the qualifiers for the first time at US Open.
Both the players will be facing each other for the first time in their career. The match is scheduled to begin at 11.00 PM IST.
