Serie A: Player FORCED to be substituted for failing to take off EARRINGS – One of the most bizarre scenes took place at the Alberto Picco – Spezia’s home ground where Spezia took on Inter Milan in a Serie A game. Though Inter registered a 3-1 win, the most awkward incident took place involving Specia forward M’Bala Nzola who was forced to be substituted after failing to take off his earrings during the game. Nzola was brought on to the field during the 60th minute of the game after his team went down by a goal against Inter Milan. The introduction of the striker meant that Spezia was looking for an equalizer and was eager to display attacking gameplay.

After Nzola came onto the field, the referee of the game noticed an earring on the striker’s left ear and asked the player to leave the pitch to remove the ornament.
However, things didn’t go exactly to plan, as within a minute the referee had spotted the large earring in Nzola’s left ear and ordered him to leave the pitch immediately to remove it. The 25-year-old striker spent a substantial amount of time on the sideline in a bid to remove the jewelry.
When the forward was unable to remove his left earring, the support staff of the Spezia team too got involved to remove the jewelry so that the striker can go back on the field and play his part in the game. However, even with the very best of efforts from the coaching staff, the earring remained stuck on Nzola’s ear.

With precious time running away and also the game from their hands, Thiago Motta the manager of Spezia eventually opted to sub out Nzola and bring in Janis Antiste in the field.
After Nzola was subbed off Inter Milan slotted their second goal to take the game out of reach of Spezia. Overall, the game ended 3-1 with goals from Marcelo Brozovic, Lautaro Martinez, and Alexis Sanchez for the Milan giants. For Spezia Guilio Maggiore scored the solitary goal.
