The Australian cricket governing body announced the news on Twitter, saying “Former New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori will oversee white ball preparations in Melbourne and travel with the squad to Pakistan as a coaching consultant.”

Pakistan is currently competing in a Test match against Australia, following which the two nations will play three ODIs and one T20I match, all of which will be held at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium. Vettori will link up with the squad in Lahore.

The 43-year-old from Auckland is a reputed figure in the coaching circuit and has already worked with many teams. He was the coach of the Indian Premier League franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore between 2014 and 2018.
Vettori has also worked as a spin bowling coach for Bangladesh, while as for his other franchise stints, he has worked with Euro T20 Slam’s Dublin Chiefs and Caribbean Premier League’s Barbados Royals.
As for Australia’s ongoing series against Pakistan, the first two Test matches have not produced a winner while the third Test is likely to result in a draw as well, given the flatness of the tracks in Pakistan. Australia would be determined to make the most of the limited-overs series, which explains why they are desperate to fly in Vettori to Lahore.
