LPL 2022: Lanka Premier League to kick on July 31st- The Sri Lanka Cricket Board have officially announced the window for the Lanka Premier League, with the T20 franchise league set to kick off on July 31st. The Sri Lanka Cricket Board in an official release confirmed that the third edition of the Lanka Premier League would kick off on July 31st, with the final game set to be played on August 21. The tournament will feature five teams, with games played at the R Premadasa Cricket Stadium and the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in Hambantota.

The tournament is Sri Lanka’s topmost domestic T20 league and will feature some top overseas stars. The registration of international players for the player draft will commence shortly. Last season, the likes of Imran Tahir, Wahab Riaz, Phil Salt, Ben Dunk and Samit Patel all featured in the tournament.

“We are extremely happy to announce the 3rd edition of the Lanka Premier League, which has started well its journey toward carving a place in the global T20 League competitions, as a formidable tournament,’’ said Mr. Shammi Silva, President, Sri Lanka Cricket.

The LPL 2022 comes at a time of strife for Sri Lanka, with a civil-war-like state in the country. Cricket has been a medium to calm civilian unrest and generate funds, with Sri Lanka already involved in a series against T20 world champions Australia. The SLC are also expected to host the Asia Cup, along with a series against both India Men and Women.
