In a game that has been interrupted by rain, Kings achieved the win over D/L as the rain continued to our steadily, thereby bringing the match to a close. Previously, Vijayakanth Viyaskanth and Maheesh Theekshana restricted Kandy Falcons to 143/8. Theekshana picked up two wickets while Viyaskanth bagged three wickets to keep Jaffna in check after a 61-run stand between Pathum Nissanka and Kamindu Mendis. Kandy Falcons batted first and went on to score a decent 143 on the board. Opener Pathum Nissanka shone with the bat after scoring a decent 35-run knock. Top-order batter Kamindu Mendis went on to add another 26 runs which helped the Falcons pile up the score. In terms of the balling department, Vijayakanth Viyaskanth was the starman with his 3-wicket haul for the Jaffna Kings.
However, it was a day when the rain gods enjoyed their own right. It was a game that was interrupted by rain at many intervals. Set to chase 144, Jaffna Kings had a rather decent start. After losing three wickets, the Kings were poised at 93/3 after 10.3 overs. But the game couldn’t progress at all as the heavens opened.
With no chance of rain stopping, the game was called off at last. Kings who were much ahead via the D/L method were adjudged as the winners. The Kings qualify directly for the finals while Kandy Falcons will meet Colombo Stars in Qualifier 2.
