IPL 2023: Is Aiden Markram the new captain of SRH? Management to make a decision after watching Mayank Agarwal in Ranji Trophy – Despite having 42 crores in the bank heading to the IPL auction, SRH failed to get hold of Ben Stokes or Sam Curran. Among the new players purchased, Mayank Agarwal is the strong contender to lead the side owing to his domestic and PBKS experience. The management though will watch the opening batter’s performance in Ranji and then take a call.
For now, Markram is the favorite to lead the side, with Agarwal and Bhuvneshwar Kumar as the other contenders. “Who said we don’t have strong candidates? There are Bhuvneshwar and Aiden and with Mayank coming in, we have a solid leadership group. We will see how it goes in Ranji for Mayank and then take a call on the captaincy,” an SRH official told InsideSport.
IPL 2023: Why Markram is the ideal candidate to lead SRH?
- The SRH batter had a good IPL 2022 season scoring 381 runs in 14 matches at a strike rate of 139.05.
- Agarwal and Bhuvneshwar previously failed to get the results in IPL by captaining PBKS and SRH for a brief while.
- Markram is the side’s most trusted middle-order player, plus he has captaincy experience leading the Titans’ side in South Africa.
- The 28-year-old also has won the Under-19 World Cup for South Africa. The only thing that could go against Markram is his non-IPL experience as a leader.
- With management placing the punt on him to be a leader in SA20 League for SEC, Markram could well be the successor of Kane Williamson in SRH.
