Activision removes Nickmercs Bundle from Call of Duty Games, Know More

Nickmercs Call of Duty bundle was removed from the Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone store after he made controversial comments about the LGBTQIA+ community. The streamer claimed that children should be 'left alone' in schools and not educated on LGBTQIA+ topics, which drew the ire of thousands of Twitter users.

Activision has removed the Nickmercs Operator Bundle from the Modern Warfare II and Warzone store. The bundle was removed on June 8, 2023, following an anti-LGBTQ+ comment that Nickmercs made earlier that week. Read on to know more about the incident and comment from the streamer.

On June 7, retired Halo pro and MLG executive Chris Puckett tweeted a video of an attack on pro-LGBTQ+ demonstrators outside of a school board meeting in Glendale, CA. Nickmercs responded to the tweet, writing “I’m not a fan of pride month.”

The comment was met with widespread criticism, and Activision announced that it would be removing the Nickmercs Operator Bundle from the store. The bundle included a Nickmercs skin, weapon blueprint, and calling card.

In a statement, Activision said that it “does not tolerate discrimination of any kind.” The company added that it “is committed to creating a safe and inclusive environment for all players.”

Nickmercs has since apologized for his comment, saying that he “did not mean to offend anyone.” He added that he “supports the LGBTQ+ community.”

The removal of the Nickmercs Operator Bundle is the latest in a series of actions taken by Activision to address discrimination in its games. In 2022, the company banned a player for using a racial slur in-game. Activision has also said that it is working on new tools to help players report discrimination.

Activision’s actions are a positive step towards creating a more inclusive gaming environment. However, more needs to be done to address the issue of discrimination in gaming. Players, developers, and publishers all have a role to play in creating a safe and welcoming space for everyone.
