Down to the wire!

Eight needed of six deliveries. Will we see a super over?

2.12am

Willey makes a superb start to the over – he spears in two wide yorkers – but once again, it unravels as he serves up another full toss to O’Brien, who slices it over the off-side field for four. Game still evenly poised with Ireland needing 17 off 12.

2.02am
Sixer!!
Ireland need 31 runs from 24 balls

Kevin O’Brien absolutely slams a Willey high full-toss out of the park through deep square and that should relieve some of the pressure. IRE are 298/3 after 46 overs.

1.55am

Rashid comes up trumps in his final over as he tempts the Ireland captain to drive uppishly and Billings makes no mistake at deep extra cover. FOW-279/3

Applause from the dressing room as he kisses the badge on his helmet. Can he stay out there till the end?

1.23am
Ireland cruising at moment

Willey got hammered by Stirling (135*) and Balbirnie (83*). A four and a six. Up next, the stand-in captain and he gets smacked for a four too by Balbirnie. The visitors are not stopping anytime soon. Moeen must have a headache now. IRE-236/1 after 37 overs

1.08am
Back to back boundaries
Drinks break!

Stirling smashes Willey in the first ball back through mid-off and flicking the next over square leg – back-to-back boundaries to bring the required rate down again.

150 partnership comes up for Stirling-Balbrine
Ireland cross 200 runs mark

12.56am
ENG slowing visitors down

Curran and Mahmood have slowed down the runrate with Ireland batsmen only managing singles now. The match is poised very delicately right now, and if the visitors have to win, they have to continue with this partnership. IRE-185/1 after 30 overs.

12.38am
Century for Stirling

Innocuous full toss on the pads, flicked away easily and that’s a fantastic hundred from Stirling, off 96 balls and his first against England!

Short and slapped to midwicket by Stirling, it goes quickly and Vince cannot cling on! How costly might that prove?

12.07am
Maiden from Adil Rashid
After 20 overs; IRE-126/1 (Stirling 78*, Balbirnie 31*)

Really good from Adil Rashid, keeping Stirling on his toes as he works through his variations and nearly traps the opener with one out of the front of the hand. Nothing too loopy though and so Stirling stays sensible.

11.52pm
100 comes up for Ireland
50 partnership for Stirling-Balbrine

11.47pm
Stirling hits half-century

Stirling plays it off for a single to raise his half-century – a vital knock for his side, from Ireland’s vice-captain. Can he turn it into a three-digit score?

11.20pm
Back to back sixes!

Mahmood sends one in half way down and Stirling is onto it in a flash, swivel-pulling six high and handsomely over deep square-leg. He then repeats the dose with the next delivery, fuller this time. IRE-44/0 after 8 overs

11pm
Stirling, Delany start steady for IRE

David Willey restarts the proceedings with the ball as Paul Stirling and Gareth Delany open for Ireland to chase a massive target of 329. Apart from Stirling’s cover-drive, not much in the first over. IRE-9/0 after 4 overs.

10.13pm
England all out for 328

10.09pm
After 49 overs; ENG-325/9 (Mahmood 12*, T Curran 36*)

Curran drills the first ball of Young’s over through mid-on for four, just the start to the over England were after. Just three singles follow though as Young comes back well, Mahmood fortunate that the ball dropped just short of the fielder when it looked as though he had chipped to mid-on. Curran is on strike to start the last.

9.40pm

Willey who proved his talent with the ball earlier in the series, put up a superior display with the willow today to save England from a crucial stage as hr brought up his half-century with a smashing sixer!

Willey rocks back and heaves McBrine over deep midwicket as the off-spinner drops short. That brings up the 50 partnership from just 48 balls.

9.26pm
250 comes up for England

The England tail-enders are doing a neat job with Tom Curran and David Willey playing a responsible innings as they bring up England’s 250-runs mark.

9.20pm
Curran, Willey take it slowly

Tom Curran (9*) has added a bit of verve to the England batting since coming on as he hits Adair for a well-time boundary after his four in the last over. Willey is on 14* on the other end. They are taking it a tad bit slow now. ENG-239/7 after 38 overs.

9.03pm
England are now 7 down

Craig Young is back into the attack and back with a wicket! Billings has been in brilliant touch but he miscalculates this time as he tries an on-drive on the up and ends up just chipping it straight to Mark Adair at mid-on. FOW-216/7

Shot ball from Campher as Billings dispatches it through midwicket! Larruped in front of deep square to bring up England’s 200.

8.22pm
The captain is on fire!
Century for Morgan!

Eoin Morgan completes his century- 14th overall and second against his former side. Beautifully struck straight four to bring up his ton, from 78 balls, a cracking knock so far from England’s captain.

8.18pm
First ODI half-century for Tom Banton

Banton goes down the track again to McBrine, depositing him for a maximum – and then snatches a single on the leg side to bring up his first ODI half-century from 41 balls.

8.15pm
ENG cross 150

A boundary at long on and another slog sweep — there’s no stopping Morgan (87*) tonight as he races into the 80s now. Banton is also on 43* as he nears his fifty. ENG -160/3 after 23 overs.

8.11pm
100 runs partnership for Morgan-Banton

Morgan follows Banton’s lead on this occasion, taking a couple of boundaries off McBrine – one of them down the ground and just eluding the man on the fence and the second, a sweep shot, bringing up the 100 partnership.

8.04pm
Morgan- the lone ranger!

With ten fours and two sixes, Morgan (71*) has absolutely smacked the Irish bowling attack in Southampton. Despite losing Roy, Bairstow and Vince early in the match, the captain alongwith Banton (30*) has stabilised England’s innings with a 85-run partnership. ENG are 129/3 after 20 overs.

7.51pm

7.47pm
Half-century for the England skipper
What a cracking way to bring it up!

Fifty for Morgan as he skips down the track and launches a second six of his innings over long-off on his way through to a 39-ball fifty.

7.31pm
SIX- first of the match!

Morgan expecting the bumper from Little and when it arrives he hammers it away effortlessly for six over deep square-leg. What a peach of a shot!

7.23pm
ENG are 59/3 after 10 overs

Morgan, Banton try to restart innings. Morgan streakily edging one backward of point and Banton playing and missing at a couple of attempted drives. But Banton gets the better of the battle, picking up back-to-back boundaries through the covers in between those two loose shots.

7.10pm
Is the end of James Vince?

A disappointing end for Vince yet again who fails to churn out a big number. Another dismissal before getting start, this time feathering a thin inside edge through to the keeper – initially not given out, but detected on DRS. FOW-44/3

7pm
After 6 overs; ENG: 28-2 (Vince 14*, Morgan 8*)
