MI vs RCB, IPL 2026: Royal Challengers Bengaluru returned to winning ways with an 18-run win over Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium. The win helped RCB retain third spot on the IPL 2026 Points Table with 6 points from four games. Sent to bat, RCB set a massive target of 241 but MI managed to finish with 222/5.
Bright start, Phil Salt way
As Virat Kohli continued to struggle with a sluggish 38-ball 50-run knock, Phil Salt was in the mood. He returned to form with a blazing 36-ball 78-run knock, laced with 6 fours and as many sixes. Thanks to his power show, RCB rushed to 71/0 in the powerplay and by 10 overs, RCB were 115/0.
Rajat Patidar show
With Phil Salt departing for 78 and Virat Kohli struggling, RCB needed someone to step up. Captain Rajat Patidar raised his hand. Hardik Pandya also made things easier for him by introducing Mayank Markande. And Patidar, who has an excellent record against spin, went on a rampage. He hit the first four balls for 4, 6, 6 and 6. He was looking at the fastest fifty in IPL, but that record remained intact. With four 4s and five 6s, Patidar smashed 20-ball 53. However, RCB did not relent. Tim David smashed 16-ball 34 to take Royal Challengers Bengaluru to 241/4 in 20 overs.
Rohit Sharma retires hurt
Mumbai Indians had to start well in the chase and they did. Ryan Rickleton and Rohit Sharma took Mumbai to 57/0 in 5.2 overs. But Rohit Sharma had to retire hurt as he was struggling with a hamstring injury. And he did not come back to bat again. That hurt MI’s momentum. Suyash Sharma then dealt a double blow, dismissing Ryan Rickleton (37 off 22) and Tilak Varma (1 off 3) in the 8th over.
Hardik Pandya (40 off 22) and Suryakumar Yadav (33 off 22) tried to recover with a 47-run stand off 27 balls. But Pandya soon fell and they lost the momentum.
However, even in the loss, Mumbai will take positives from Sherfane Rutherford’s knock. The West Indian smashed an unbeaten 31-ball 71-run knock, laced with nine sixes. However, it came too little too late as Mumbai ended their innings with 222/5.

Sherfane Rutherford tried his best with an unbeaten 71 off 31, but it came way too late as Mumbai managed 222/5. Suyash Sharma's twin strike in the 8th over and Rohit Sharma retiring hurt made the difference in the chase. But it was Rajat Patidar show that decided the tie in RCB's favour. is 20-ball 53, Tim David's 16-ball 34 and Phil Salt's 36-ball 78 helped RCB post a mammoth 240/4.

MI vs RCB Match Preview: Royal Challengers Bengaluru
12/04/2026 18:00
RCB, despite the recent setback, boast a strong form overall. Their potent batting line-up, led by Virat Kohli, who has an excellent record at the Wankhede, Phil Salt, Devdutt Padikkal, Rajat Patidar, Tim David, and Jitesh Sharma, will be aiming to plunder Mumbai’s bowling attack.
However, their bowling needs to bounce back. Josh Hazlewood returned after a long injury layoff and looked out of sorts. He was taken apart by Sooryavanshi. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was also not effective. But with the swing on offer at the Wankhede, he would aim to make his mark.

Rajasthan Royals, especially Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, have left both Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru bruised. His rampaging knocks against both teams have pushed the two giants of IPL to the backfoot.
Now, Mumbai need to regroup, especially their bowling with Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult, Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur all guilty of leaking runs. They will bank on the home conditions to take down Bengaluru’s strong batting line-up.
Mumbai also need their star batters to respond after their top order fell apart in a rain-curtailed game. Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, and Hardik Pandya (captain) need to provide Mumbai with some solid knocks.
Wankhede Stadium Pitch Report
12/04/2026 17:36
The Wankhede pitch is classically batting-friendly, offering good bounce, pace, and true carry that allows batters to play through the line and time shots freely. Short boundaries amplify scoring, with high totals common. In the last game at this venue, Mumbai Indians chased down a 221-run target against Kolkata Knight Riders.
Pacers may get some swing or seam early with the new ball, aided by sea breeze, but the surface eases out quickly. Spinners get limited assistance, though dew in night games often assists the chasing side by slowing the ball less and aiding stroke-play. Teams winning the toss often prefer to chase.
MI vs RCB Head to Head
