Jofra Archer comes up with fastest over since debut, bowls consistently above 90 mph

IND vs ENG: Earlier on day two, Jofra Archer had already bagged a wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal, fairly early in the innings.

Who would say that Jofra Archer is playing Test cricket after four years. After all, the pacer is raking up some excellent speeds, way better than what all the bowlers, combined had managed so far, in the IND vs ENG Test series. At Lord’s Archer just reminded one and all, as to what the world was missing.

Jofra Archer Hurries Indian Batters

On a dead pitch, where on multiple occasions the ball couldn’t even reach the keeper, Jamie Smith had to jump a few notches in the air to collect the ball. That’s how quick the English pacer bowled. Meanwhile, that’s not it. On the third day of the match, during his 18th over, he touched speeds in excess of 90 mph, for the entire over.

That was the time India had two new batters at the crease — Ravindra Jadeja and Nitish Kumar Reddy. The first two deliveries were the fastest of the lot, where he recorded speeds of 93 mph each, followed by 92 and 91 thereafter. Jadeja and NKR too found ways to negotiate with those speeds safely.

Fastest Over Since Debut

Statistically speaking, as per CricViz, this also happens to Archer’s fastest over in Tests, after his debut, where his duel with Steve Smith is still memorable. As far as the IND vs ENG contest is concerned, Team India seem to inching ahead slightly, as on tea, they were 317/5, 70 runs adrift of England’s first innings score of 387.

Jadeja has made his way to a solid 40, while NKR scored a shaky 26, and yet managed to survive. The scoring rate dipped in the session, but then the duo added over 60 runs in the second session of the day.
